If you are applying to study at the London School of Puppetry and you need a visa to come to the UK YOU STILL NEED TO BE INTERVIEWED. However, we know that foreign applicants go through a lot of personal sacrifice to come to the UK and the cost of travelling for an interview would be prohibitive. Although it is recommended that you come for an interview, there is an alternative: You need to convince us that you are serious about wanting to study puppetry.
- Send photos of your work, plus as much useful information as possible about yourself- you might not have done much puppetry but any visual art, film or theatre work is fine. Please tell us more about why you want to be a puppeteer and how this relates to your past work.
- Provide two references from professional puppeteers from your own country to prove that you are serious about studying puppetry in the UK.
- Tell us why you think the London School of Puppetry is the right school for you? Please give good reasons-what do you know about class sizes? the curriculum? the level of fees? the way work is assessed? and tell us where you found out about the School. Please spend time contacting the school to get the answers to your questions. We will possibly put you on to a current student who might be able to provide you with the information you need
- What other puppetry courses have you applied for in the UK?
- Tell us why you need to study in the UK?
- What provision for puppetry training is there in your own country? You need to show us what you know about it and show that you have been thorough finding out about it.
- Describe any qualifications you have in English language or the length of time you have been studying it.
- Tell us how you will support yourself financially while you are here, please give details.
- Give us the name and address of people you know in the UK as contacts.
- Please give the name and address of any person with whom you plan to stay while in the UK. Will this be your permanent UK address?
- Decide which study unit you wish to take - and your start date.
If your answers are good we will: Offer you the probationary period of study where you will be assessed and interviewed and supporting documentation to assist you to get your UK visa.
You will: Pay full fees for the PPD in advance-you will be sent an invoice. We will return these fees to you (after the relevant deductions have been made) if:
- you are not successful at gaining the visa
- we do not judge you to be able to continue studying with LSP (the UK government will be informed of the decision.) The Probationary Period might be interrupted at any time if you are unable to work to the expected standard.
