ToP - Puppetry in education, training and therapy

London School of Puppetry in response to a rising demand for enabling artists and teachers to teach through puppetry or to teach puppetry itself, has devised the following course. Students learn to analyse the processes of puppetry while making demonstration performance pieces. They apply their skills to different client groups. There is ample time for students to satisfy their precise needs as potential teachers while exploring and enriching their work in education.

Some students might need to place the emphasis on their learning in developing and understanding puppetry skills, others might need to develop their classroom or people management skills. Applicants should be advanced practitioners as teachers, social workers, therapists, psychologists, performers, artists or puppeteers.

The course is divided into one month blocks which may be taken over a 24 month period.
UNITS as Diploma plus Teaching Practice for three out of four modules plus below:

  • Communicating the specialised skills of the puppeteer when working as a trainer.
  • Devising and creating new writing for animated objects. OR Adapting and performing the plays of Shakespeare for a multilingual class.
  • Enabling your students to accept responsibility for determining and achieving personal or group outcomes when making work.
  • Enabling a client to commit themselves to the puppet as a transitional object.
  • Enabling a client to rise to the social expectations of puppet play.
  • Facilitate puppet-play as means for projection.
