Rod Puppetry MiniCourse London 2nd-4th February 2009 Puppets and Literature

February 2, 2009toFebruary 4, 2009

(Human-sized and larger puppets)

The Rod Puppetry family is probably represents the largest family of all the types of puppets. This Course is designed to compliment the Rod-Puppetry Playtime Course. For this course once again we are taking a special type of rod puppet technique from Japan called Otome. This was the only type of puppetry allowed for women to play in Japan. It is a very interesting style first introduced to the UK by ex LSP student Yuki Muramatsu. The puppets are operated by one person, with the head of the puppet attached by string to the head of the puppeteer.  LSP has adapted the style to explore different sizes of puppet, and we also let the blokes have a go too!
We will also be offering experience with puppets that take two or three puppeteers to operate and also extend our studies into very tall puppets which we will make and play with and use to devise action based on text. There will be an opportunity to act as an outside eye for the Diploma students who will be in London to complete their rod-puppetry studies. This course is aimed at all those interested puppetry as students, teachers of drama and literature and languages.

At the request of some participants if you wish to perform at 3.00 in the afternoon and provide your own local audience, then that will be great!
